Hope In The Midst of a Crisis
What do you think our world needs right now, at this very unique place in history?
I’m not sure what you are thinking, but here is what I think...
Hope.
After a year of seemingly never-ending crisis, I think our world needs hope, a big, overwhelming dose of hope!
And that really is the message of Easter…hope.
You see, on Good Friday, all the hopes and dreams of Jesus’ followers died with him.
Before the resurrection, they were thinking it was all over. They expected Jesus to rise to power, overthrow the oppressive Roman government, and establish a new kingdom on earth.
But when he died, all those hopes and dreams died with him.
They thought it was over.
Nothing mattered now. Not the amazing teachings, not the miracles, not the casting out of demons, not the control of the weather… none of that mattered now because Jesus was dead.
And the disciples found themselves afraid and locked in their house, with their world turned upside down.
Sound familiar?
It sounds familiar to me. We're living in a time where we're afraid, where we’ve been isolated in our homes. And in a lot of ways, we feel like our world has been turned upside down.
But on Resurrection Day, when the disciples see that Jesus is alive, hope is restored.
When Jesus walked from the tomb into their home, everything changed.
Everything he said about God, about life, about forgiveness, it was all true.
And in the same way, on this Easter, as we reflect on our risen Savior, our hope is restored as well.
When we let Jesus walk from the tomb into our life, everything changes.
We’re not putting our faith in ourselves any longer.
We’re not putting our faith in our wealth.
We're not putting our faith in our own abilities.
We're putting our faith in the God who never changes, who sent his son to die and rise again so that we could live a rich and satisfying life… in this world and in the next.
So why not choose to make this Easter matter… for you?
Let Jesus take this temporary moment and turn it into your eternal hope.
Turn it into a hope that changes lives. Turn it into a hope that the disciples discovered, that billions of others have discovered, and that you can discover too.
