Single Moms' Auto Repair
How it works
Please read this page before you apply. It saves everybody time and makes sure we can actually help with what you need.
Please read before applying
What we cannot repair
Our volunteers get asked to do work that is beyond what this ministry can safely or legally handle. If your need is on this list, we won't be able to help — so please check it carefully before filling out the application.
Major work — engine or transmission replacement, body work, or paint
Repairs that take longer than one day or require a specialty shop
Purchasing your parts for you — the ministry provides labor, not parts funding
Storing your vehicle on campus, or work while you drop off and leave
State inspections, warranty work, or anything on a vehicle not registered in your name
What we can do
If your repair is not in the list above, here is the kind of work our volunteer mechanics are equipped to take on.
- Minor repairs and routine maintenance that can be completed in a few hours
- Oil changes, brakes, belts, batteries, alternators, starters, and diagnostics
- Tire changes and rotations, fluid and filter service
- An honest look under the hood so you know what you're actually dealing with
- A parts estimate before anything is purchased
Before you apply
A few things to know
01
Who we serve
Single moms with children living at home, inside the Charlotte, NC metro area. Senior citizens (65+) are also welcome to apply.
02
No appointments
We don't take appointments. Applications are reviewed, and our coordinator contacts you when a repair day and a mechanic match your need.
03
Confirm by Wednesday
It's your responsibility to confirm by Wednesday evening the week of your repair. We send a reminder, but the confirmation is on you.
04
Stay with your vehicle
You'll need to stay on campus with your vehicle while the work is done. No drop-offs.
05
Parts are reimbursed
Our mechanics give you a parts estimate before buying. You reimburse the ministry with cash, check, or credit/debit card. Labor is always free.
06
Safety comes first
If our team determines a vehicle is unsafe to drive, they may decline the repair. That decision is never made lightly — it's made for you.
